Feeling a little crabby? So was I, but not grouchy just in the mood for some crabs! Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes to be exact.
I was talking to my mom Sunday morning and she told me the family was making crab legs and lobster for Father’s Day. Immediately my mouth started watering and I couldn’t let the distance get in the way of my seafood dinner. I went to the grocer and bought some lump crab because crab cakes were on my mind.
This was my first time making homemade crab cakes but definitely not my last. This recipe will now be my go to party appetizer. They’re fancy but easy.
If you’re a first timer buying lump crab, don’t be scared. Walking into the store I knew I wasn’t buying anything canned. The words canned crab just grosses me out. I headed to the meat & seafood cooler searching for crab. I didn’t know it then, but I had so much to learn. “Jumbo lump” is the part of the crab referring to the two top “shoulder” muscles of the crab. This meat is large and tasty, what you need for your crab cakes.
Once you’ve successfully purchased the crab, you’re on your way to amazing crab cakes. The rest is simple, mix all the ingredients in a bowl, form into patties and fry.
